What we stand for
Why short stories?
Grimalkin Press believes that growth and understanding comes from listening to all voices, especially giving space and representation to those voices historically marginalized. Together is the only way forward, and we believe in lifting up and supporting marginalized voices and aim to have fair and equal treatment to all involved with our organization.
Why dark fiction?
A.E. Santana is deeply interested in the human condition. What drives people? Why do they make the choices that they do? Are people's behavior a product of nurture or nature? What is going on in the darkest areas of our hearts and minds? Dark fiction is a perfect conduit to answer these questions.
Inclusion and diversity
Short stories are often at the heart of oral storytelling traditions; stories that are long enough to make an impact but short enough to be remembered and retold. The love of the short story fuels this press, creating a space for people who want to dip their toes into horror, find a new favorite modern author, spend a little time in a horrid situation, then a little more. The format of the short story lends itself to horror, creating enough tension and drama, then leaving the audience sucker punched. Campfire tales, folk stories, fairy tales — they often thrive and spread the best as short stories.
